Hyvää Suomi – Part 8

Moscow! It has been a long time since i published the first part of my russia trip to St. Petersburg but finally i managed to edit the Moscow part.

What happened that i did it? Well, first of all my exams were finished on monday and i had the opportunity to spend one night at the airport of Helsinki. Heavily armoured with my laptop and loads of motivation i took on the challenge.

.. is a very good description for how i feel right now. Sitting on the airport of Helsinki i am waiting for my flight to my old home Berlin. Being filled up with christmas feelings i wanted to share a little christmas card i received from one of my students. I teach german to a crazy bunch of finish first graders since september. Even though i still do not know what i am doing (i am a mechanical engineering student (!)) i have a blast – they seem not to run away – and the weirdest thing is that they even speak a bit german by now. Last week we had our little pikko joulu. To give you a picture: me throwing tons of german candy at them and they returned this with even more cards, drawings and finish candy to me – all in all a reason to feel happy about what i have achieved with these kids and to feel a bit more useful to my new home country of my finland.

don’t anybody correct that minor spelling mistake in the christmas card!

Let it snow..

Oh my – Helsinki is a winter dream right now and i barely can set out a foot outside of the door any more – I have even bought myself some cross country skies today and I will be shown how to use them tomorrow morning at seven(!) by one of my wonderful tutors. To bring you all (who are actually south of finland) some of this white wonder i let wordpress snow on my blog – how do you like it? Is it too annoying or still acceptable?

Linnan Juhlat

As posted earlier today it is the highest national day of celebration in little finland. On this day fins do not only want to thank Lenin for giving them independence in 1917 (yes, that late!) but also their veterans in winter war (1939-1940) for keeping them from having to learn russian nowadays. Next to all of that it is just a nice way to be proud of one another in this small but brave country.

Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivä – God Självständighetsdagen – Alles Gute zum Nikolaus

Hey everybody,

today i have a free extend weekend day since we have the highest National Day in Finland: Independence Day. Beneath that it is also one of the highest celebration days for children in Germany: Nikolaus. According to this special double celebration i asked one of my elementary school kids to draw a nikolaus picture for my blog. For the finish independence day i found the perfect picture in Stockman.

Is the taste good? I can tell you this after tonight 🙂

Suomi Kaku – Independence day kake!

Nikolaus contributed from one of my elemantary kids.

Do it the finish way ..

Last week i received a very important piece of information from my finish friend matias. When he retrieved his mail from the postbox he threw one letter away immediately. Curious i asked him what it was and he told me that the finish government was bugging him. OK..

And now guess what i got today – Yes! And guess what i did – Yes!
