My first attempt into wedding Photographie

A fantastic Weekend is coming to an end and I am still quite awestruck by all the impressions that I have collected in the last 48 hours – But first things first: I have been invited to my very first Wedding (if you do not count the chinese version of my Team assistance last year). My Second Cousin has got married in Schloss Wulkow close to the Polish Border and the setting couldn’t have been nicer. Of course they had planned this wedding months before and wanting me to be a their only as a guest meant, that they had already organised to professional photographers to capture all the emotions of the day. Still I wanted to practice for having to shoot my first wedding job next summer and took my small 50mm canon camera with me. Trying to take some emotional pictures with limited effort proved to be quite a blast, and my smiles during editing became bigger and bigger.

Considering how much fun I had this weekend I am really looking forward to next years big job.

27 Pictures – 6 days – An old photographers dream

I am back in Germany and I know. I know I have not stuck to my promise. I have not posted too much about my holiday during the summer. Part of the reason is that I am not allowed to speak about some of the amazing projects at this point, but stay tuned for some great videos later that year. The other reason is that I have just really enjoyed my time and did not want to spoil the Finish summer in front of a computer. One project I want to speak about today was something I have done ten years ago and have ceased to exercise ever since. I have faced the the challenges of analog photography for a long time when starting to mess with the camera of my parents at the age of ten, but have been a true digital photographer ever since. Having enjoyed the virtues of shooting 500 pictures and more during one event, having total control with a small monitor, and knowing all ways around my small EOS 500D – I really like my way of Phototography. Nevertheless I was in for a big change this summer.

For the FLOW Festival 2012 in Helsinki I did not want to use my Large SLR but chose an option inspired by my great finish friend Satu Moilainen. Satu attempted this summer to shoot with only one instant camera and 27 pictures during the course of three months. My patience is not close to this excellence but I liked the idea way too much and bought myself and overpriced small cam and even found some time to paint it in funky colors.

My results? How did I like those 27 precious little pictures? I am not really sure – part of me is very proud to have attempted to limit myself to this small number and is surprised by the results. The other half is very certain about the incredible luck you must have with this kind of photography. Nevertheless I got the taste of it and will try to shoot more lucky photography later that year .. Stay tuned!

Class Reunion

My Holidays have started and I want to share my first experiences from Berlin. Having passed my last exam ever during my studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, I have moved on to my old home town of Berlin. Meeting a bunch of old class mates from 2007 has been a surprising get to gether of some fun individuals. Surprisingly none of them have changed all that much, and maybe thats even a good thing. These days we are really just getting, make barbecues and envy the good old times – The site was awesome and I want to Thank Marta and Basti for a wonderfully organized afternoon with a wonderful crowd – see you all again in five years ..

Summer

BildMy dear Blog Readers,

I know time has passed since my last post – too much time. But be happy about the summer, since I have great plans of revitalizing this little site that has been dormant for such a long time. Since I have returned from china in march I have enjoyed a wonderful half year in munich, which has welcomed me greatly. Unfortunatelly my studies have not forgotten me either and accordingly I have had loads of other things on my mind, than this beloved blog.

This Summer though I will return, to the birth places of this blog. I will revisit articles, meet old friends and will join new friends and document some of their ideas and stories. I look forward to this exciting new time. For one month I will leave central europe and move my centre of living to one of the most wonderful places in north Euroipe. Helsinki here i come. My list of ideas is long, and my mind for inspiration wide open.

What are your ideas i should do? Where should i go? Whom should i meet?

I can’t wait to fly – 2 weeks for inspiration and meditation are left ..

Happy Chinese New Year!

Last week I received an invitation for this Saturday’s night – it was a scary warning ..

Nimen hao!

Like you may experienced in the last 2 evenings North Korea, under control of its new president Kim Jong Pijiu, seems to start a war against beautiful Shenyang. To observe the enemies actions Jonas and I discovered a roof which seems to be a safe place to survive. Like you can read in the kitchen’s newspaper the first peak of the enemies attack will take place on Sunday, 9 pm. Therefore we recommend you to get some provision (Meat & Mons) and joins us at this date on the roof of our apartment. To stay warm in coming Cold War Part II we decided to make a little barbecue for which we need a person who will organize some coals. In case of an unexpected discovery by the North Korean waves we suggest you to prepare yourself with fireworks and some Triple C rockets to defend He Pan Chin Chan.
Hopefully see u on Sunday. Uninjured and alive.

Best Regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen / 诚挚的问候

Dirk xxx

Well – what can I say: I did what has been suggested and my troops are ready to defend mighty Shenyang!

Mittelbayerische Zeitung

yes – it finally happened: one of my pictures has found its way to a german news paper. Its a regional publication that used one of my pictures that I have shot for the “Studiokino” Regensburg about a year ago. The whole job had been come together because of a favor I did for my friend Gerschi. Having played around with the pictures a little more, the request from Unifilm came if I want to do a little more in Regensburg with the local Students movie theater. Good memories come up – can’t wait to go back to Germany to shoot a little more for those guys!.
